Mandy asked for sugestions on Wales.
We travelled through Wales for a few days last year and instantly fell in love with it. We had a car which, I suppose, allowed us to visit places which may be difficult to get to if you're travelling by train. For what it's worth, the following were very special to us: 1. The Wye Valley and Tintern Abbey. 2. The Elan River area. 3. Coastal towns on the West coast such as Aberystwyth, Harlech and Cricketh. 4. The castles at Harlech and Conwy with the wonderful views from their walls. 5. The Snowdonia area (beautiful small villages such as Ffestiniog, Porthmadog and Beddgelert, and the Llanberis Valley and pass). 6. The Hillcrest bed-and-breakfast accommodation in Ffestiniog - the best we have ever stayed in (owner: Jen Gardner; address: Hillcrest, Pant Llwyd, Ffestiniog, Gwynedd, LL41 4PW, Wales; tel. no. + 44 1766 762787). 7. A wonderful meal at the Yr Wylan (The Seagull) restaurant in the main street of Porthmadog. Maans Kemp |
