Dear Gretchen,

First, thanks for your efforts at stimulating discussion on the list. Let's hope this is the start of even more free exchange of ideas amongst our members.

We were in Munich in the Fall of 1995 and did a bit of hotel hopping while we were there. Actually, we arrived with reservations at a place called the Splendid but when we found out that they had no English TV channels, we cancelled our reservation and booked into the Hotel an der Oper, which though nice was a bit pricey. Next day, we continued our search and found what we were seeking. Located perfectly, between Marienplatz and Maximilianstrasse, Hotel Alcorn (Garni, no restaurant) is at Ledererstrasse 13. Tel: (089) 2283511 + 225981 Fax: (089) 2904618. Though many of the rooms are small, we were lucky to get room #26 which at the time cost 160 DM. This is not luxury. It has the feel of a B&B (breakfast was quite good) and there's no elevator; clean, nice people, good value. Linda&Don
