Tourist office also located on Burg Square (Burg 11). Because Brugge is so popular a place to visit, you need to book at least 2 weeks in advance, or if you will be there over a holiday or over a weekend need to book about one month in advance. Can also make reservations at the booking office in the train station. Can make reservations from U.S. or anywhere in Europe by calling the Belgium Tourist Reservation Center in Belgium at (32) 22305029. Hotel-Pension Imperial: Dweersstraat 24-28, 8000 Brugge; phone: 050-339014. Nice, clean, breakfast included; no bathrooms with rooms. Single: $28 double: $38. Home of A. Van Acker, Barrierestraat 13, 8200 Brugge; phone: 383583. Bed and breakfast. Single: $20; double: $30. B&B Yvonne de Vriese, Predikherenstraat 40, B-8000 Brugge; phone: (050)334-224. Close to the main squares, a bus stop. Mr. de Vriese is a teacher of English, French and German and can be hired as a tour guide. Double $65. B&B of Danielle &Christian Janssen,Stoelstraat7, B-8000 Brugge; (050)330632. Within walking distance to center of town. Owners are a very charming and helpful couple. A plentiful and good breakfast is served in your room. Double with bath about $49. Hotel Imperial, Diviersstraat 24-28, B 8000; 50-339014. Single: $35-$50; double: $60-$70. The best buy in this price category. Hotel de Orangerie, 4-star, Kartuizerinnestraat 10; 50-341649. Newest and most beautiful in city. A 16th-century patrician home built around a central garden and terraced filled with greenery. Everything possible has been done to preserve the original character of the home, with antiques throughout the public areas and the 18 large bedrooms. Breakfast is taken on the terrace beside the canal overlooking the passing boats. Single: $130; double: $140-$200. Duc de Bourgogne, Huidenvettersplein 12; 50-332038. Only 9 rooms, but the most prestigious and elegant hotel in Brugge. Double: $100-$150. Hotel Notre Dame, Mariastraat 3, B-8000 Brugge; 50-333193. Good location, nice small hotel. Rooms have bathrooms with showers but no bathtubs. Single: $50; double: $70. Bourgoensch Hof, Woolestraat 39, is an elegant townhouse with only 11 rooms, tucked quietly away in a lovely courtyard beside a canal, a short walk from Markt Square. Breakfast included. Double: $52-$111. Ter Brughe, Oost Gistelhof 2. A 15th-century Gothic-style home on a quiet canal, a few steps from the oldest bridge. Bedrooms are comfortable and buffet breakfasts are delicious. 10 minute from the Markt Square. Double $82-$98. Oud Huis Amsterdam, Spiegeirei 3; (32-50)341810, a combination of two 16th-century townhouses. Next to the Spiegeirei canal, with a lovely garden and terrace. Rooms have color TV and some have jacuzzis. Breakfast included. Double: $140-$250. A 5-minute walk to Markt Square. Die Swaene, Steenhouwersdijk (Groene Rei), B-8000 Brugge, Belgium; (050)342798. Two short blocks from the Burg. 24 rooms in a converted 3-story home on the town's most picturesque canal. Also boasts one of the finest dining rooms in the city. Considered Europe's third most romantic hotel. Classical music accompanies breakfast. The owner, Hubert Hessel-Dutoit makes you feel very comfortable. Double: $117-$140 including breakfast, tax and service. Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza, Burg 10; (32-50)345834. Double, including breakfast from: $190. Hotel 't Koffeeboontje, Hallestraat 4; (32-50)338027. A modest 25-room upstairs place just a few doors from the main square. All rooms have their own bathrooms, some with kitchenettes and breakfast is included in the room rate. Double: $66-$133. Hotel Jacob, Baliestraat 1, 8000 Brugge; 50-33-56-94. A nice, small, clean and quiet hotel near the Mark (5 minutes walkk along the canals). Moderately priced. |
