Newport waterfront and mansions are beautiful and there are several historic hotels. Lots of museums and great restaurants, too. Newport's Welcome Center phone is 800-326-6030. RI is not only Newport, however. The south county beaches (Narragansett with its historic Towers, Scarborough, Galilee, East Matunuck, Matunuck, Green Hill, Charlestown and Westerly and Watch Hill) are also quite popular for vacationers and are beautiful, not as ritzy as Newport.

If you want to travel further up the coast from Ogunquit, Booth Bay Harbor is neat - you can have fresh lobster on picnic tables at any of several lobster shacks. Also, quaint shops around the harbor area. Gretchen has a good point about airports, too. RI's Green State Airport is a breeze - quite compact, recently rebuilt and very nice. Boston traffic can be pretty terrible, and there is ALWAYS lots of road construction on the Rts 3, 93, &95, so you really have to plan on stop-and-go traffic for 10-15 miles from the airport.
