The small wineries along Silverado Trial and on the connnecting roads to the main Highway are less crowded and often have better wines. I'm sorry to see Flavio's comment that almost all of them charge for tasting now; the crush of tourists has necessitated it, but I am still sorry to see part of the old charm go. As sort of locals (a few
miles south of San Francisco) we generally avoid it in the summer, and I had not realized that had happened.
