A couple of weeks ago we had the pleasure of having lunch with Ann and Tom Widdowson in Victoria, BC. After a tour of the Universe Explorer, on which we were passengers for an Alaskan Cruise, we all enjoyed lunch at one of Ann and Tom's favorite restaurants--Yokohama--and our first real introduction to real Japanese food. Have to admit I limited my taste of Shushi to what Ann ordered. She explained al lot of the menu items to us for which we were grateful.
After lunch they graciously took us to see the gardens we had missed on previous trips --Beacon Hill Park, Finlayson Gardens at the University, the Widdowson Gardens (their own home), and we ended up at the Horticulture Center of the Pacific where Ann is on the board and Tom helped design the Japanese Gardens. While Ann attended a meeting at the gardens, Tom drove us back to the Universe Explorer for our last night aboard.
In addition to the Alaskan Tours, this ship is used for a floating University associated with The University of Pittsburgh where students earn a semester's credits twice a year. This program is known as Semester at Sea.
I hope to upload a picture of Ann, Tom and me in Victoria in the shared files.
