I was in Ouray in the summer of 94 and was told that a snow plough had been lost on the pass the previous winter. We went across the pass from Silverton in an old motorhome with new tyres and found some of the curves a bit scary - especially where there are no guard rails. This was not helped by the fact that our son discovered he had a tick on his neck and went beserk just when there appeared to be no place to pull over. Still, it makes for great memories! Isn't it crazy how we love our travel disasters.
