|Subject: Re: Thailand - Beaches in Phuket|
Yes, some of the best beaches are in Phuket. Though Patong is about the most popular, it is packed with tourists. Some of the nicer ones in Phuket include Karon and Karon Noi (where the Le Meridien is), and Kata. These don't have as much people and vendors compared to Patong. Others like Pansea (where the glamourous Amanpuri is) and the one down south (forgot the name, but the Phuket Yacht Club is located there), are kind of rocky but deserted.
If you did some of the islands, especially things like Ko Samui in the Gulf of Siam, the beaches are less crowded and the water clearer. If you do make it to Ko Samui, the beaches at Chaweng, where all the hotels are at, and the other well known one (Lamai, I think, forgot the name) are really nice. What would be really nice would be to take a boat to the Ang Thorn (I think) Marine National Park. Worth the trip and great snorkling. We were there in 1994 and hired a private speedboat to do the Marine National Park. Don't know if they do that now though (we stayed at the Baan Taling Ngam when it was a Mandarin Oriental, which is now a Le Royal Meridien).......
Have fun in Thailand and don't forget to write!!
Edmund in Singapore (getting hazy... time to go on a holiday!!)
