Suggesting routes for Ireland is a difficult proposition :-) So much
beauty, so many great back roads. But I have to recommend Northern Ireland,
the Antrim Coast. One natural site that blew me away was THE GIANT'S
CAUSEWAY. Thousands and thousands of volcanic basalt columns stupping down
into the sea on away toward Scotland. The coast up here is gorgeous! Ruined
castles and Bushmill's Distillery (good tour).
Another area of Northern Ireland I loved was around Lough(Lake) Erne from Enniskillen to Belleek (yes, the famous pottery!). Take a boat ride on the Erne to Devenish island and explore the monastic ruins from the 11-12th centuries. Drive the lake shore from Enniskillen to Belleek - beautiful. And a tour of the pottery is fascinating (just watch your wife's credit cards :-) ) Cynthia Kilian in Woodstock, Illinois USA |
