here's another vote for bryson. that man makes me double over in laughter. i have only read 'a walk in the woods' (i read it in one sitting because i couldn't put it down, and it's relatively short), the lost continent (another venture into mutiple orgasmic laughter) and 'the palace under the alps' (describes great off-the-beaten-track places to visit in europe). i haven't read 'notes from a small island' but i'll put it on my list. thanks, michele wuerzburg, germany
