Subject: Puerto Vallarta Hotel in Old Town
We have been staying the last five winters at Los Cuatro Vientos (described as the prettiest hotel in Mexico). It's up behind the cathedral on Matamoros - the on-site owner is Gloria Whiting, a native Californian. Try to get the corner room on the third floor - spectacular views of all the town (cathedral, Los Arcos, etc.) and also the resort area off to your right. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and decorated Mexican style The rooms are in the neighbourhood of $45 U.S. per night which includes a continental breakfast every day except Monday. This hotel attracts returnees on a regular basis and also is home to one of the nicest restaurants in town, Chez Elena - there's also a rooftop bar called El Nido where you can sit and watch the sunset and you may even be witness to the occasional wedding while you're enjoying your evening cocktail. There's also a website you can visit at:

I've recommended this hotel to several people and took five of my girlfriends down with me last January - Gloria is a most accommodating host.
