Subject: German trip in May
Wertheim has a walkable downtown shopping area, a fine castle, and boat trips on the Main River. The restaurants we happened on were wonderful and full of locals (we used the nose and noise test - did it smell good and were there people inside enjoying themselves?). The countryside all around was pretty to drive (small roads) with many little towns to stop in. Two towns that looked charming for a base were Tauberbischofsheim and Miltenberg, both with historic centers. 'Ziners have previously recommended Swabisch Hall and Tubingen. Do check out

We really enjoyed the atmosphere in Wurzburg, although it is a bigger town it is very lively. Someday we hope to investigate Koln (Cologne) more, as it gets 3 stars in the Michelin guide. In May I imagine the boats would be running up and down the Main. Another area that was recommended to me by a cousin is around the lake Bodensee, in the south. Germany is really big and we barely stuck our toes in! Finally, I would recommend the Karen Brown's guides. We couldn't get a reservation at her choice places this time, but I like her taste.
