You should be pretty much in the heart of the French Quarter. Bring comfortable walking shoes and just explore! There are lots of wonderful antique and art shops on Rue Royal, as well, a (personal) must do is to hit Pat O'Briens Irish Pub and have a hurricane, you can take it with you. A tour (if you want to pay) of the Garden Distric would be great, but otherwise you can just take the St Charles Street car ($1.25) and ask the driver to let you out in the heart of the Garden District, and just explore on your own. The grand old homes (Mansions) are delightful.
My wife and I had a fantastic dinner at a restaurant called The Upperline, the food was fantastic, the service very attentive; but it's not very big, so make a reservation early!! They have a website: http://www.upperline.com that will have their phone # on it!
If you're there on a Sunday (but any day will do!) go to the Cafe do Monde for Beignets and Coffee and just enjoy the ambiance of the place (ie people watch, see and be seen!) it's a great way to relax and start the day (or end it). The other thing my wife really wanted to do, but we did'nt have the time was a swamp tour (if you're into communing with nature). Your hotel concierge can probably help you with a good tour.
Have a great time!
