Subject: RE: Anniversary Trip...Suggestions Please
John,

What a happy quandry to be in!

I just have to put a plug in for my part of the world. The airlines have some very reasonable deals into Asia from Canada (& the U.S.) - both packages (with hotels), and airfare only.

Thailand: There are some wonderful places in Thailand that are beautiful, quiet, and relaxing (either beach or hill country). Cathay, I believe, has some package deals that might be worth a look at and Air Canada and Cdn. have a seat sale which, I think, includes Bangkok as well. The places I have stayed at haven't been the type of thing you are looking for but there are many recommendations for idyllic locations in my database - can look them up for you if you are interested.

Bali: Christmas '98 we stayed in a lovely, very romantic small hotel overlooking the rice terraces just outside of Ubud (we thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful 6 km walk into town between the rice fields, past friendly artists' homes, etc. - but there is a van to take as well) that is only about $60US per night. Their staff are incredibly friendly and the food superb. The ocean is very close by (and, in fact, a night or two on either end of your trip at one of the smaller beach resorts would still be within your budget) and there is an incredible variety of things to see on day trips. Here's the web address for the Alam Sari, Keliki, Bali. (Of course - there are lots of other recommended places in Bali as well: http://www.indo.com/hotels/alam_sari/index.html The Air Canada &Cdn. seat sale price to HKG is $1200 from Toronto right now, then you'd have to go from HKG to DPS (Denpasar, Indonesia) by Cathay.

Cheers from Hong Kong, Judy
