There are three compelling reasons to visit Orvieto, however. The Duomo is
unforgettable, especially if you like lots of gold, and color; The views
down onto the valley below are also terrific; and most of all, there is a
gelati shop there that is as good as it gets; in my opinion, better than
Vivoli, Giolati's, and some of the other well known ones. The only one in
its league, as far as I'm concerned, is Paolo's in Verona, and I've heard
that Paolo retired to South America and left the business to his kids.
Gelati is something I take very seriously!!! There is a wonderful book
entitled something like, the Gourmet Food lover's guide to Italy, by Fred
Plotkin, I think. It is a great resource.
