Subject: Speaking in Rome |
Well, as you know Rome is a major tourist destination and gathers people
from all the world, therefore you'll find no problem speaking English when
dealing with people in the tourist industry, i.e. hotel clerks, waiters,
museum wardens and so on. Many shops post on their door the notice they
speak English or other languages, but basically almost every Italian under
30 years old knows some basic English words. In most cases it's very
essential and the pronounce will upset you :-) but they'll be happy to help
if you just ask in a kind way and keep on smiling (this is true in any part
of the world).
In the unfortunate chance nobody understand you, do try French and do not
forget the old hand-signal language!
