Perhaps you can do a one day trip to Mantova. It has a medieval town center, there is some very nice churches and square. There are also two wonderful ducal palace, one just in the down town by the Cathedral and the other in the suburb (it was the countryside ducal palace). It this palace you can find some nice frescos. Don't miss the sala dei giganti (giant's room) frescos!
Sabbioneta, few kilometers south of Mantova, is a small town in the Mantova countryside where you can find another great ducal palace. Sabbioneta is a less touristic town than Mantova.
Moreover, as wrote some days ago by Simona, le Langhe distrect in Piemonte region is a great destination for wine road (if you like wine don't miss a trip in the Langhe).
Ciao, Marco in Milan (Italy)
