|Subject: Chiang Mai &Bangkok|
Just got back from the trip to ChiangMai and Bangkok and thoroughly enjoyed it (as usual!!).
Chiang Mai - Realised that there are not taxi companies in the city and you would need to know a driver to call. Most hotels would do it for you but if you stay in somewhere like the awsomely beautiful Regent Chiang Mai resort, or anywhere that stuffy, they won't. - The night market there is cheaper than in Bangkok and if you are into traditional Thai crafts and fabric, this place is great. - Made it to Mae Son Checkpoint and walked into Burma, and drove to the Golden Triangle...... saw Cambodia and Burma from our picnic spot..... - Smoked a Churut, a local 'cigar', and found it a bit too harsh.....
Bangkok - Bangkok is Bangkok..... loved every minute of it. - The new Skytrain is SOOOOOOO convenient - One stop is situated just next to the Regent and it is one stop from Patpong (Sala Daeng), and one stop from Siam Square (MBK......). The Skytrain even goes all the way to teh Chatuchak Weekend Market and stops right there too!! - We moved to the Peninsula Bangkok after a couple of days and found that hotel amazing!! It's the highest-techest of all the high-tech hotels I have seen!! You control you room from the TV to the curtains to the do-not-disturb sign on your door from your bedside!! And the view!!!! And at only US$85++ per night with breakfast and a one way limousine transfer, this is a steal (rate available till 2001. Contact your travel professional ffor more information). OK, so it's on the wrong side of the river, but I guess this is subjective as to which part of the river you want/have to be on. There is a regular ferry service to the other side with their own private pier and boat andd the walk from the pier to the Skytrain is 10 minutes (depending on how crowded the strees are there.....)
Until the next time...... Edmund in Singapore
