Subject: Hotel in Barcelona |
Dear Greg and Carissa,
Since you aree looking for hotels for around $100, I have suggested a few
below, and included some relatively cheaper ones because my prices are out of
date so they will be more.
Hotel Gran Via, Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes 642; 318-1900. Very charming, a late 1800's palace. Double Around $100-$120. Duques de Bergara, 11 Carrer de Bergara; 301-5151. Small, intimate 4-star hotel with excellent service. Located just off the Placa de Catalunya, hotel makes a great base for walking around the major sights of Barcelona. Within promenading distance of the Gothic Quarter, the Ramblas and the Eixample. Once a mansion, this comfortable establishment has a grandiose foyer of cut glass and carved wood whose extravagance does not entirely extend to the guest rooms, which are satisfactory but disapointingly modern and seem detached from the mood of the hotel's flamboyant entry. Still, the hotel's quiet elegance provides a welcome asylum from the hustle of nearby street life. Doubles from $90. Hotel Jardi, 1 Placa de Sant Josep Oriol; 301-5900. Set on one of the two most picturesque squares in the Barri Gotic (old town). Rooms are simply furnished, but neat and clean. Reservations are a must. Double: $34. Hotel Nouvel, 18-20 Carrer Santa Anna; 301-8274. On an old, narrow street off Las Ramblas. It has an intimate atmosphere, old-world ambience that brings their guests back time after time. Just finished renovating all of its rooms with each one having its own bathrooms. Rooms simply furnished, but neat and clean. Double: $64. Residencia Windsor, 84 Rambla de Catalunya; 215-1198. Located on one of the city's poshest shopping avenues. Located among 4 and 5-star hotels. Rooms are large, light-filled and spotless. A wonderful bargain. Be sure and book a reservation in advance. Double: $46. Good luck, Sandy |
