Heere is a list from my files of budget hotels in and around Athens. The prices are somewhat outdated though. hoppe theyhelp somewhat. sandy HOTELS Emmantina Hotel, in Glyfada (by the airport and beach): 33, King George Ave. Phone: 893-2111. Very nice, clean, inexpensive. Oceanis Resort Hotel, Glyfada (near airport). One block from ocean. Balcony, pool, bar and restaurant. Continental breakfast included. Double with bathroom: $35. Hotel Plaka, 7 Kapnikareas (and Mitropoleos St.), Athens. Excellent location in heart of Plaka. Air conditioned, beautiful rooftop garden overlooking Acropolis. Double with bathroom $50. Hotel Aphrodite's House, 12 Einardou St., Attikas Square 10440, Athens. Meticulously clean hotel in a quiet residential area. Abundant hot water 24 hours a day. An easy 5-minute walk from railroad and metro stations, 10 minute walk to Acropolis. 27 rooms accommodating one to four persons (some with private baths). Common facilities fastidiously maintained. Rates per person: $7-$15. Hotel Nefeli, Iperidou 16, The Plaka, Athens. Family-run hotel in middle of old area of Athens. They are very friendly and helpful. Single: $33; double: $47. Austria, 7 Mousson; 923-5151. A small hotel (37 rooms) sparsely furnished rooms, but it is clean, quiet, efficient and in the city center. It's on the slopes of the Acropolis. Double: $50. Athens YWCA, 11 Amerikis St., Athens; (30-1)362-4291. Spartan, but welcoming. Floors and walls are bare, but many rooms have balconies looking out either on an interior courtyard or a wide terrace over the street. However, beware that the noise level on the street side approaches raucous! There is no air-conditioning. Current rates are about $11 for a single with shared bath, $15 with private bath; doubles about $17 with shares bath, $21.50 with private bath. Adonis Hotel, 324-9737, in the Plaka, a charming small hotel with a pretty roof garden. Doubles from $35. Akropolis House, 322-2344, a dignified small hotel in the Plaka. Doubles from $37. Hotel Phoebus, 322-0142, in the Plaka, is where Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson filmed part of Fortunes of War. It has a charming domestic quality. Doubles from $52. |
