the following are the cheapest places to stay in Stockholm. If you are going
in the summer the best rates are in the University dorms which are near
center of town, that's where i stayed in August number of years ago. Prices
quoted are out of date. Sandy
SSRS, P.O. Box 5652, S-11489 Stockholm; (08)155090. University housing. Open to visitors from late May through late August. $12 per person, per night.
A/F Chapman, STF Vandranhem af Chapman Skeppsholmen; 679-5015. A sailing ship turned youth hostel with bunk beds. Anchored in Stockholm harbor. About a third of the 156 beds are made available every morning, but if you want to reserve space, you need to do it at least 3 months in advance. $10 beds, two to eight per stateroom. Open April to mid-December, 7:00-12:00 and 15:00 to 02:00.
Queen's Hotel, Drottninggatan 71A; 08/249460. A cheery, clean, and only a 10-minute walk from the station, in a great pedestrian area across the street from the City baths. Has a nice TV and piano lounge, coffee in the evenings, a staff that really enjoys its guests. THis is probably the best cheap hotel in town. Doubles with breakfast $70 in summer, $100 in winter.
Elizabet Viklund, Roslagsgatan 15, just past Odengatan. Bus #53 from the station takes you right to her door; buses 46,54 and 44 also will get you to her! Phone: 154051. She loves helping visitors enjoy her city. She even has a special info sheet called Elizabet's Fvorites. Double $55.
Hotel Domus, Korsbarsvagen 1, Box 5906, 114 89 Stockholm; (08)160195. One of the less expensive hotels in central Stockholm. Has garage. Comfortable, cheery hotel. Breakfast included. Very good buy for the weekend. Single: $80; double: $90; weekend rates: single $50; double $65.
