Subject: A question about American/British English word usage
When we were in New Orleans, we ate at K-Paul's and on our special banquet menu was Swordfish in Warm Fanny Sauce -- Upon seeing my souvenir menu, an English friend was horrified that such a word would be used to describe a sauce!! Apparently this word has an indelicate meaning in British English!! She wonders just what this sauce is, and, now, so do I. Do any of you culinary-expert Zines out there know what this New Orleans dish might be? (I did not have the Swordfish that night.) By the way, the British are also very surprised at our term fanny pack -- more common there for the same thing is bum bag. Cheers, Pat in Baltimore
