William Fanny is indeed offensive in British English. It has nothing to do with the rear-end, but refers to female genitalia. Amazing how different American and British slang can be. Hope this helps.

My husband is the one who explained this to me. He reminds us that the hand sign we Americans use for peace means two in Britain, but if the palm is facing inward, it is an insult (the one we refer to as flipping the bird.....bird also meaning something else across the Atlantic).
