Subject: Re: Re: Greek Islands mid-May |
My husband and I spent four nights on Astipalea about 6 years ago. We were
there in May and there was hardly anything open. In fact when we got off
the night ferry from Paros at 6:30 a.m. there was nothing open.
Fortunately, my husband ran into someone who owned a pension so we found a
place to stay fairly easily. There is no public transport on the island so
you have to walk everywhere or perhaps rent a boat. We took a long walk
(about 12 km) to the next village only to find there was no restaurant open
at that time of year. We did manage to find a small grocery store and were
able to purchase the makings for lunch. However, if you want a quiet place
to stay, away from all the crowds of tourists, Astipalea will certainly suit
you. We enjoyed it. We stayed at the Pension Australis, which is to the
right along the harbour as you disembark from the ferry. The rooms were
simple but adequate and the owner's wife cooked very good meals (not
included in the room price). If you have any further questions, please send
me an email.
