|Subject: Re: Portovenere and Bellagio|
Just to whet your appetite, take a look at our pix of Lake Como @ http://www.ballpoint.org/Italy.html. You have made a wise choice to end your travels in the lakes--it is so restful after lots of sightseeing and one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. We stayed at the Hotel Belvedere in Bellagio--it's not the Villa Serbelloni but quite a lovely place and well-run for years by the same family (I know it's a favorite of Don &Linda's and probably some other Ziners). We went slumming one night down to the Villa for drinks and music. My husband was no doubt in a polo or other casual shirt + khakis, and I was almost certainly in black head to toe, albeit not dressy (we travel very light, casual and for me, with black and neutrals). We were warmly greeted, and on my husband's polite inquiry, we were lead on an impromptu tour of the hotel main rooms and grounds before being shown into the lounge. Enjoy the luxurious surroundings and quite grace of the estate--they'll make you feel right at home.
Enjoy your planning/trip! Sounds like a lovely adventure.
