Subject: rentals in Italy
As many of you asked about renting a place in Italy, I could share with you my experience of rentals in Tuscany and Umbria during past years.

First, the prices are very different, and I mean it. I usually rent two-bedrooms apartments in some agriturismo or country house, with a swimming pool and play area for kids: the weekly prices I paid in the last 4 years range from 300$ on Lake Trasimeno shores in Umbria to 800$ in Maremma (southern Tuscany). Last year I paid 600$ for a very nice agriturismo near Pisa I found on the web, but the prices on catalogs were very high for the Florence area, up to 1000-1200$ for July and August, which I think it's madness. If you want to spend less than 300$ per week, you have two options: travel in low season (March to June, excluding Easter, or September to October) or choose some apartment building downtown at less known places. Staying in agriturismo (farm house) doesn't guarantee a cheap price anymore.

If anyone needs detailed informations, I can dig out last year's catalogs and look at the area you wish more informations about.

Ciao

Paolo
