Subject: Books by Travel Writers
As I sat last night reading Eric Newby's A Traveller's Life (especially the chapter on the Lonely Islands of the Hebrides) and leafing through Samual Johnson and James Boswell's A Journey to the Western Islands of Scotland and The Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides (in the 1700's), both absolutely delightful books, I wondered if other Ziners are avid readers of travel writing--not guidebooks like Frommers or Lonely Planet, etc, but books by the leading travel writers of various centuries. What are your favorite travel writers and books? I can't imagine much better than curling up with a good travel book (when not actually travelling!) Do you have some suggestions for great books on travel? Cheers, Pat in Baltimore
