Hi there,
I agree with the Peter Mayle recommendation, and would like to add Frances
Mayes Under the Tuscan Sun and Bella Tuscany, as well as Ferenc Mate's The
Hills of Tuscany. I've also enjoyed the Greek books by Charmian
Clift--Mermaid Singing and Peel Me a Lotus etc. And I've just finished A
Cottage in Portugal by Richard Hewitt and a wonderful book called The Last
Old Place by Datus Proper (about his travels in Portugal. An all-time
favourite of mine is Karen Connelly's One Room in a Castle, Letters from
Spain, France and Greece.
I'm looking forward to compiling a new stack of books based on
recommendations here.
Cheers,
