I would love to give you some info on Savannah, Georgia. It is one of the most beautiful towns in the south and I lived there for almost four years.
First of all, lodging - Prices seem to have really skyrocketed in the historic district since the publication of MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL.(great book if you haven't read it) I have stayed at the Ballastone Inn http://www.ballastone.com and Planters Inn http://www.plantersinnsavannah.com . Both were reasonable several years back, but I am not sure now. There is a BEAUTIFUL Hampton Inn that was just built in the historic district and was made to look like it has been there for hundreds of years. It is within walking distance of everything and has a parking garage. I am going to try and stay there on my next trip down.
Restaurants-There are so many good ones, it will be hard to chose. It you want a really special experience got to Elizabeth on 37th. It is the best restaurant in Savannah. Another favorite is Bistro Savannah which is near city market in the historic district. It was our favorite. The crispy scored flounder and potato crusted salmon are to die for. Two doors down is Garabaldis-they also have one in Charleston. There are a number of good seafood restaurants on River Street. Can't think of the names of them right now.
Another nice experience is going on a carriage ride at night and listening to stories of old Savannah as you ride down the cobblestone streets.
Anyway, there is more to tell but I don't want to keep running on and I am afraid I am falling asleep as it is after midnight!!!
Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any other info.
