I agree with all that has been said about the Southeast U.S. Asheville,
Beaufort, S.C., and Savannah are all worthwhile travel destinations. If you
can make it over to the North Carolina coast, the Outer Banks are fabulous.
It's a dramatic, rugged coast, the pace is relaxed and the prices are very
affordable. Beaufort, NC is also a nice place. It has a good historic
district, and a lot of B&Bs in old Victorian homes.
On the subject of Asheville, a couple of restaurants you may want to consider are the Laughing Seed, a very good vegetarian restaurant, and a Mexican food place which I think is called something like Salsa's, although I'm not sure. Also, the nearby community of Black Mountain is a nice little area to stay in. It's a small, picturesque, walkable town with lots of good B&B's. Our favorite is called something like the Inn Around the Corner (again, I'm not 100% certain on the name). The Red Rocker Inn is also nice. Have a good trip. Evan Rodewald Durham, NC USA |
