Subject: Appropriate dress in churches |
In addition to Italy, appropriate dress in Istanbul mosques is taken
seriously.
I had a group of high school students with me there once and one boy had
worn longish shorts on that hot day in Istanbul. We had to rig a big
headscarf
borrowed from one of the chaperones to tie around him at waist level--making
sort of a skirt -- which was not much longer than his shorts, but was
approved by those in charge of the mosque, while the shorts were most
definitely forbidden. To this day, he is teased by others who accompanied
him on that trip about hisskirt. A fun memory for all, including him!
