Subject: Italy Travel Books
We would concur with Bill's comments about both Faith Heller Willinger's marvelous travel book Eating in Italy as well as his observation about Karen Browns guides. We would also strongly recommend Fred Plotkin's Italy for the Gourmet Traveler not only for his restaurant reviews, but also his mention of lodgings and shops all over the country. Every place that he lists has been a bullseye for us, without a single failing. Willinger's book concentrates on Northern Italy, while Plotkin's covers the entire boot as well as Sicily and Sardinia. Also, Italy for the Gourmet Traveler includes some fascinating historical perspective, that helps the visitor understand the evolution and derivation of the foods, wines and cultures of each region.
