|Subject: Hotel Nizza|
In response to two inquiries that I also responded to privately, here is
some more information about the hotel Nizza. Unfortunately, I could not
reach the Web site Cindy gave. Their email address
is hotelnizza I mentioned how much we enjoyed it, particularly
because of Piero and Roberto, the co-owners. We were referred there two
years ago by a travel agent at my daughter's Air Force base in Germany
because we needed a place that would accept her dog. One or more of us have
now gone back at least four times.
By lack of amenities, I simply mean that it is not fancy. Linens and towels are not changed daily when the room is cleaned. Breakfast is strictly continental (rolls, butter, preserves, coffee--no eggs, cereal or the like). However, it is more than made up for by the friendliness and helpfulness of Piero and Roberto. I don't recall exactly what I paid for myself, wife, and grown daughter, but it was about $100 night.
It is clean and they are in the process of installing air-conditioning (though they may be like other hotels, including 4* ones we have stayed in that turn it off in the middle of the night--if you are air-conditioning dependent like we are, you should probably check with any hotel as to their policy--having one is obviously no good if it is not on). Via Panzani is somewhat busy at night, though I had no trouble sleeping. You can't ask for a better location to get around Florence.
There is also a wonderful restaurant, the Giglio Rosso, which is not connected with the hotel, that is next door.
If you do decide to make a reservation, please send them our best--we were just there two weeks ago and plan to go back next year.
