|Subject: Italy-Switzerland train fare|

on train travel I'm sending this for him or anyone else who can answer.
I see that there's a night train Firenze-Lausanne leaving at 22.18, which goes to Olten, way north in Switzerland, before turning south to Bern and Lausanne. I take it this is because part of the train goes to Basel and splits off from the rest going to Bern-Lausanne-Geneve. Does this mean one must pay the fare for all these extra kilometers (expensive in Swiss territory?) Or do they offer a deal where the fare to Lausanne is the same as on the more direct route via Brig-Martigny?
Thanks, Andrew St. Joseph, Missouri
