Hi Gwen -
We've only spent one night in Brussels, and that was at a superb 5 star
hotel, Le Plaza. We were there on a crew rate, since we'd gotten bumped with
the pilot's wife. I seriously doubt if we would choose to pay their regular
rates. It was wonderful - the bathroom was as big as most rooms we usually
We have stayed in other cities, such as Antwerp and Brugges, on other trips.
I can be of more help with restaurants. We had a fabulous seafood meal at Le
Vistro, 16 Quai aux Briques, near Place St. Catherine. The walls are
decorated with sketches by the patrons - your kids would probably like that.
The area is picturesque too. Phone 512-41-81.
And if you get a chance, try Pain Quotidien for breakfast. There are
several, in Brussels as well as other Belgian cities, including one near the
Place Sablon, 11 Rue des Sablons, phone 513-51-54. You sit at a communal
table and help yourself to pots of spreads, including hazlenut chocolate,
white chocolate, honey, butter, pear butter, jams... Order a basket of
breads and croissants and a big bowl of coffee or cocoa. Yum! There's one in
Paris, and NYC too.
