Subject: Re: Madrid area
Carol, I was in Madrid with my mom last Sept and we took Julia Tours to all the outlying areas. They were very good. They pick up on the Gran Via at their office. Tours can include meals or not depending if you want to eat with the group or not. The El Escorial Tour was a half day and also goes to Valle de los Caidos (Valley of the Fallen), The Avila tour combines with Segovia. It was a good tour and we saw more than we would have on our own since the guide was familiar with Avila but we were rushed through the town in order to get to Segovia and be rushed through there. I thought if I went back I would proably try the train and spend more time there since both Avila and Segovia are wonderful cities. Madrid is my favorite city. We lived there for 5 years in the 70s when my husband was stationed there in the AF and I love going back again. Carol in San Antonio TX
