I went to Cuba a year and a half ago during March break. We stayed
on the Ancon peninsula near the city of Trinidad di Cuba. We had a
fabulous time. It combined both beach and sightseeing. Our hotel, the
Costasur was not fancy but clean and friendly. We enjoyed the snorkeling
on the reef - we could wade out to it which was perfect for this
beginner. Ancon Beach itself with its powdery sand is a 10 minute walk
away.
It is a $10 taxi ride into the city of Trinidad which has been designed as a world heritage site by Unesco. There are several museums - sugar planters home, for example, in Trinidad, a market, music centre, cathedral, and other places to visit. We felt comfortable walking around the town, exchanging greetings with people. We also visited the mountains for a dip in a waterfall and a meal at a coffee planters home. My travelogue is at http://caribtravelnews.com/c0499_02.htm I would recommend this area. But don't go looking for high class resorts and gourmet food. Frances |
