|Subject: Government advice to travellers|
I recall some time ago a thread about official advice given by governments
to travellers, sometimes a bit too cautious.
Tonight I heard the news about US Department of State suggesting US
citizens in Italy to take measures to avoid personal offences in
retaliation for the execution of an Italian-American man in Virginia last
night. Italy sure had had a strong opposition and sponsored a campaign in
support of him, but this is a real OVERLY cautious advice!
I don't want to discuss the issue of death penalty here, as it's not the place, but I sadly note someone in DC is still comparing Italy to some unreliable Mideastern or African country, like Lebanon in the 80's or Rwanda in the 90's. I hope, better, I believe the majority of US travellers will be wise enough to disregard this nonsense.
Sorry for the mood.
