|Subject: Re: Dominican Republic and/or Haiti|
My views are old...I haven't been in a while, and I'm sure the winds of progress and urban development have been blowing over the island. That said...
I lived in the DR for 7 months, but it was actually at the Club Med in Punta Cana. I didn't spend much time in Santo Domingo but what I remember of it was crazy, crowded and masses of humanity! Also, lots of crazy drivers, lots of people, no visible traffic laws, &lots of noise. However, I know there is a lot to see there and unfortunately I never had the opportunity to do so.
However, it is very different once you get out of the city. There are wonderful resorts, beautiful beaches and very friendly people.
Punta Cana is gorgeous (I'm biased.) Altos de Chavon is very interesting...it's a re-created village dedicated to arts &crafts. Puerto Plato has resorts and golf courses.
Never went to Haiti although I had an opportunity to go for a free week to the Club Med there, but after 7 months I wanted to go home. I regret that now! Oh well.
The weather is beautiful, and the water warm and clear. It sounds like it would be a wonderful family vacation.
