In preparation for the 2004 Olympics, safe streets for walkers have been added. This is a vast improvement, as Greek drivers are notoriously inconsiderate of pedestrians who absolutely never, or so it seems, have the right of way.
There's a new subway line running right through the city. We haven't been there since it opened but it was supposed to relieve some of the pollution and congestion.
Watch out for the Athens taxi drivers. Make sure the meter is set to number 1, not 2 (double fare). They will add a surcharge for the use of the trunk for your luggage.
Will you be staying right downtown? When are you going?
You'll find ideas for your trip to Athens in our Greece travelogues.
