Subject: Barge trip in Provence
We just returned from a visit to France and Andorra which included a five day self drive barge trip on the Canal du Rhone a Sete. There were four of us in the barge (advertised for 6 to 8) and the word most used to describe the journey was bucolic. The barge was 30 feet in length and with four it was extremely comfortable. I would not put any more than four adults in a 30 foot boat of any sort. We traveled from Beaucaire to Frontignan and back, stopping at Aix Mortes (sp?), Carnon, St. Gilles, Frontignan and Gallician. Lock passage was simple. We have decided to do it again in another area next year, but this was a learning experience. I would recommend it for anyone desiring to shed a type A personality for a week or so.
