|Subject: Familiar Food was Fast Food|
Regarding the popularity of American fast food chains outside of the US, I
feel the comfortable familiarity of the menu is a huge factor. Generally, I
prefer to try local cuisine and restaurants I cannot normally get, even when
in the US. However, there are times when I am tired of struggling with a
foreign language or I am too hungry to be experimental.
For me, fast food is not necessarily the answer, but familiar food is great comfort. That is one reason I have eaten in at least one Indian restaurant in every European city I've visited - I only needed to learn the word for chicken because vindaloo is always vindaloo ;-P
