I agree with these two postings regarding going from Venice to Switzerland.
However, if you wish to have your stay in Italy play the major role and, if
like many, you are arriving or departing Milan, it is fairly easy to get
trains from Milan to one of the Lakes which border Switzerland, such as Como
or Maggiore. It is about and hour to Como. We have been there twice and
heartily recommend it, but we have not gone to the next train stop, which
probably would be in Switzerland.
