Subject: Pittsburgh trip and GTG
Hello all, My husband and I had a fabulous weekend in Pittsburgh. The weather was wonderful and so we spent much of our time out and about. On Friday, we visited New Harmony where we had a great tour - just the two of us and a very interesting guide; ate ice cream at Streese's in Grove City which has been there for 40+ years; and visited the Wendall August Forge where ornaments and decorative items are hand made out of pewter, aluminum, and bronze. We also checked out the town of Volant which was a bit too full of cute gift shops for us and very briefly investigated a large factory outlet mall. Saturday we headed for the hills and Johnstown where we found the Flood Museum to be another extremely informative place. There were so many needless deaths caused mostly by greed. We couldn't ride the incline since it was closed, but we drove to the top for the view and the Visitors Center. We had an incredible early dinner at Ruthies Diner in Ligonier - excellent food, great prices, super service. Sunday was our day at the Frick Historical and Art Museum. The best part of that was getting to have lunch with Debbie and Kurt Cole-Weber/Weber. How delightful it was to feel so at home with someone I'd just met over the internet. Debbie's choice of the Cafe at the Museum was perfect. The food was delicious and we toured the house, Clayton, before lunch and the Carriage Museum after. Two sad things were that the art museum was closed to set up a new exhibition and that Kurt had to go to work so early. We hope to find another opportunity to see them again. Thanks to all who shared information and especially to Debbie for her help and hospitality. It was a really great weekend!
