For Christmas I received a delightful travel book I thought some of you
might like to read. It's called Without Reservation and subtitledThe Travels
of an Independent Woman by Alice Steinbach, a Pulitzer prizewinning former
feature writer/reporter for the Baltimore SUN and currently a Woodrow
Wilson Fellow. She goes, on her own after her children are grown, to Paris,
London, Oxford, and Italy, for nearly a year. The book is not a guide,
but rather a personal reflection of what she saw, did, and thought about
during her stays in these places. I was enchanted by it; in fact, I spent
most of a lovely quiet Christmas Day reading it! (Being of Swedish descent,
our big celebration is Christmas Eve.) Enjoy. Cheers, Pat in Baltimore
