I second Paolo's recommendations for the Amsterdam Historical Museum and Rembrandt's House. The Historical Museum is often overshadowed by the Rijksmuseum, but I found it fascinating. It is also small and could easily
be done in just a couple hours. The Rembrandt's House is cool because they have a large collection of his sketches (Rijksmuseum has his paintings). Also, it is a great example of a 17th century townhouse - which I must admit
interested me more than his sketches.
As for the Red Light District, it can actually make a pretty scenic evening stroll. At night most canal bridges have white lights, but the bridges in the Red Light District are red, which I think is very pretty. The District is safe for the most part. Erina Amsterdam, The Netherlands |
