Ever consider Big Sur? It is pretty close to where you are staying and
is dramatic, beautiful and even has Redwoods ( you might have guessed
by now that i am a certified Redwood freak :)
Close to Big Sur is Monterey, Carmel and Santa cruz, all great towns filled
with beauty, people and plenty of things to do. Driving down highway 1
in the winter is an adventure in and of itself.
Yosemite is always worth the drive nomatter what the weather is. Since
you are from Florida I assume that a more winter-like place might be more
appealing to you and if this is the case then I would definately do Yosemite.
It should take you half a day to get there and the same to get back (
weather permitting) and that leaves 3 days to enjoy the park. Bring warm
