|Subject: GERMANY / AUSTRIA|
When we were children, we used to spend our holidays travelling
around Europe. My parents like a lot to hike, so many of our holidays
were spent in the Alps area, mostly between Germany, Austria and
Italy (the Dolomiti region is still a number one for us).
We have hiked a bit around Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. The
region is magnificent, and the view of Neuschwanstein from the plain,
in the night, so white and tall...
We never made it to Neuschwanstein. The only time we decided to go, we were stuck in a traffic jam coming down from Munich, so it was too late. But after having being in Linderhof (one of the three castles), and after having read a bit about Hohenschwangau, I have the feeling that it has been underrated and obscured by the bright of the other ones.
I have found a few pages that might be interesting for you : http://www.allgaeu-schwaben.com/chohenschwangau.html http://www.hohenschwangau.de/ehome.htm http://www.neuschwanstein.net/ http://gogermany.about.com/travel/gogermany/library/weekly/aa091999.ht m http://www.castles.org/castles/Europe/Central_Europe/Germany/germany4. htm http://www.germanworld.com/hohen.htm
The region where Hohenschwangau is located, the Allgau, is very pretty. That typical image of rolling green fields, wooden houses full of geraniums, lakes and cows...
Good luck, Covadonga Bilbao
