Subject: Menton to Lake Como?
We just returned from around Menton. A don't-miss spot is the Deux-Freres Hotel in Roquebrun. If you don't have lodging arranged already, try to stay there for part of the time. Let me know if you'd like more info about this charming place, with a to-die-for view, and delicious meals too. The old town of Menton is wonderful to explore - wander the narrow cobbled and vaulted streets, climb the pebble-mosaic stairway up to St. Michel's church. The daily market in the distinctive market hall has the most beautiful displays of produce I've ever seen - my photos will be enlarged and used on my kitchen walls. I'll get hungry each time I look at them! I'm sure you know that Italy is within sight - just a few km. away. One of our favorite stops was San Remo. Great shopping, food, fascinating medieval part of town, and wonderful people, Inland from Ventimiglia, the first major town across the border, are many tiny towns that seem untouched by time. Dolceaqua was a favorite, with its humpbacked bridge and delicious Rossese wine, not readily available elsewhere. You have a wonderful trip ahead of you!
