Subject: Gatlinburg area
During a world tour in 1986, the Smokies were on our recommended must see list for hiking, national parks, pristine forests - we were totally in awe approaching the mountains & anticipating our explorations with fervour!!

Imagine the disappointment experienced after driving through these mystical, exquisitely beautiful mountains to be greeted by flashing neons, pool parlours &tinsel town souvenir shops!!!at Gatlinburg!

We were out of here in great haste - &discovered the quaint village of Townsend nearby, spending a glorious week in The Smoky Mountains &surpassing all our expectations after the initial shock. Then again, we detest the commercialisation of Surfers Paradise too, really depends on the individual.
